Gerarda Lingafelter
Gerarda S. Lingafelter, 88, Aledo, died Saturday, March 24,
2001, at home.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church,
Aledo, with the Rev. G.J. Plunkett officiating. Burial is in St. Mary's
Cemetery, Keithsburg. Visitation is from 8:30 a.m. to service time
Tuesday at the church, where a rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. In
lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Fippinger Funeral
Home, Aledo,is in charge of arrangements.
She was born April 27, 1912, in rural Viola, a daughter of John
and Anna Hynes O'Dea. She graduated from the former Immaculate
Conception Academy in Davenport and farmed with her father in the Viola
area. She married Blaine Lingafelter Oct. 6, 1943, in Aledo and farmed
with him for many years.
Gerarda was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, the
Altar and Rosary Society and the Neighborhood Club. She was a breadbaker
and enjoyed making angel food cakes for her family and friends. She
enjoyed crocheting and quilting and delighted in making care packages
and writing letters to U.S. servicemen.
Survivors include her husband, Blaine; daughters and a
son-in-law, Mary Coulter, New Boston, and Jean Ann and Ron DiGiacomo,
Arvada, Colo.; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Sharon Lingafelter,
Stephen and Sandra Lingafelter and Michael and Cindy Lingafelter, all of
Aledo; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother,
Monsignor Joseph O'Dea, Peoria.
Her parents; two sisters, Sister Mary Annell BVM and Sister
Dorothy Anne BVM; and son-in-law, Donald Coulter, preceded her in death.
