Catherine J. Lynch
The death of Mrs. M. J. Lynch which occurred at her home south
of town February 27, 1928, brought grief to the community which has
known her since she first came here in 1876 and where she with her
family have since resided. Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's
Catholic church Thursday morning conducted by Father M. J. Powers.
Interment was made in Calvary cemetery.
Katheryn Lynch was born March 17, 1850, in Jackson county, Iowa,
near Zwingle. She was married to Matthias J. Lynch January 27, 1876, at
Otter Creek, Iowa. Her husband preceded her in death about seven years
ago. To this union twelve children were born. Two boys, Matthias and
Thomas died early in life. Mrs. Lynch is survived by ten children, May
Phillips and Elizabeth Lynch and Sister Lucretia of Butte, Montana;
James Lynch of Hot Springs, South Dakota; Alice Lynch of Huntington
Park, California; Mrs. Robert Kane of Mercer township; Mrs. Katheryn
Devereaux of Villisca; Dan, Lawrence and Ed at home. She also leaves
nine grandchildren; a sister, Miss Anna Lynch of Dubuque and a brother,
Matthew Lynch of Diagonal.
Mrs. Lynch was of a very religious nature always adhering to that
part of life which did so much for her under her many trials and ills of
life. Her exceeding kindness and generosity felt by all her relatives
and friends will be greatly missed.
The last months of her life, though handicapped by a broken limb
received as a result of an auto accident last May were pleasantly spent
visiting with her nearby relative and friends, corresponding regularly
with those at a distance and extending and exceeding great welcome to
those who might drop in at any time.
She was happy and well pleased with the care and kindness of
those who attended her, expressing always her appreciation of her sons
for their constant and devoted attention.
Sympathy is extended to the grief stricken family by a large
circle of friends and acquaintances who realized the worth of this good woman.
