Mrs. Elizabeth Mack Died in Hospital

Friends and relatives here were grieved last week to learn of the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Mack, aged 36, of Council Bluffs, who died in a Council Bluffs hospital two days after finishing a twenty-four day fast, during which she took nothing but water. Mrs. Mack is perhaps better known here as Miss Elizabeth Hanley, who was a teacher in the 5th grade of the Corning schools a few years ago.
It is said that Mrs. Mack began the long fast in an attempt to cure a digestive disorder. Her fast was broken unwillingly and she was forcibly fed for two days before she died. Friends of Mrs. Mack stated that she had been interested in diet and fasting for some time, and for long periods would refuse certain kinds of food in the belief that they were harmful. Hospital authorities said that an autopsy might be ordered but Mrs. Perry Jones of Creston, a sister of the deceased, stated she would refuse permission for an autopsy. The body was taken to Creston for burial. Creston having been Mrs. Mack's girlhood home.
