Memorial
After a lingering illness, Mrs. John Mack Sr. passed
peacefully away at her home near Viola Sunday evening, Jan. 21, 1926.
While her death was not unexpected for the past several days, it brought
profound sorrow to her many friends.
The best that medical science could provide and the kind and
loving care of those nearest to her, was given at all times. Her true
and noble character was best emphasized during her suffering as she
never once complained, but bore her trials in a true Christian manner.
Naturally of the most cheerful disposition, she possessed the
faculty of making friends easily. Her illness found them all ready to assist her.
It was also evident in the large attendance at her funeral, the
beautiful flowers and numerous spiritual bouquets. Kind, cheerful,
sincere and lovable are weak terms to describe the virtues she possessed.
Anna McManus was born in Ireland Jan. 8, 1854. She has been a
resident of Mercer county since 1864. She was married to John Mack, June
5, 1893, who survives her, also three stepsons, James, John and Edward
Mack of Viola; one brother James McManus of Aledo and a half brother
Patrick McManus of Preemption and a large number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at St. John's Church in Viola, with
solemn requiem mass with Father Higgins, her pastor, celebrant; Father
Murtaugh of Sheffield, deacon; Father Daugherty, her assistant pastor,
as master of ceremonies. Interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery in
Preemption, where she was laid gently away by her three grandsons,
Louis, Frank and Charles Mack, three nephews, Bert and Walter Mack and
Jas. O'Brien of Iowa.
Out of town people present at the funeral were J. W. Mack of
Corning, Iowa; James O'Brien of Stuart, Ia., and Mrs. Mary Vanderpluym
of Afton, Iowa.
We miss thee from our home, dear mother,
We miss thee from thy place,
A shadow o'er our life is cast,
We miss the sunshine of thy face.
We miss thy kind and willing hand,
Thy fond and earnest care,
Our home is dark without thee
We miss thee everywhere.
