Bridget Mack
Mrs. Bridget Mack was born near Ennis, County Clare, Ireland
1810, and died at her last, the residence of her son John Mack, two
miles west of Viola, Tuesday evening, January 29, 1895.
Deceased was the oldest of a family of eleven children - five sons and
six daughters. Her husband died in Ireland in 1849. In 1850, she came to
America and for a few years lived in the east. She came to Rock Island
in 1855 and purchased a home in Mercer County Pre-Emption township,
shortly after and had lived in Mercer County since 1860.
Three girls of her family died in Ireland in childhood. One son,
Thomas well known, died in Pre-Emption in September 1880, with whom she
had lived. Afterwards for a few years she lived with her son, Daniel
Mack, and during the past twelve years with John Mack from whose
residence the funeral procession started from St. Joseph's Catholic
Church Pre-Emption township, Thursday January 31st at 10 o'clock a.m.
the pallbearers were Tim Noonan, John R. Thomas, Jas. Barns, Sr.,
Michael Kaveney, John Horan, and Jasper Beard. Requiem Mass was said at
St. Joseph's Church by Father Murtaugh, and the remains laid to rest in
St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Deceased until recently had enjoyed excellent health, but
December 7th 1893, a paralytic stroke enfeebled her so that both lower
limbs and one arm were affected, and since that time her condition has
been that of an invalid. Last sickness was from Monday January 21, to
the final end and was not painful. Her days were numbered and she was
called to her reward, - a kind mother. Brothers and sisters in
attendance at the funeral - many from Rock Island, and other places, and
