Charles Byron Mack
Charles Byron Mack, 75, son of Daniel Mack and Mary Margaret (Mayme)
Gauthier, was born at Corning, Dec. 6, 1913, and died at the Adair
Community Health Center, Adair, on Jan. 26, 1989.
Byron attended grade school and high school in Corning,
graduating from Corning High School in 1931. He served four years in the
army during World War II mostly overseas in the ETO.
He was interested in all sports and was a member of the Corning
High School state championship baseball team in the 1930s. He was a
member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Mack worked at the Phillips Oil Station in Corning after his
discharge from the Army. In 1969 he moved to Downey, Calif., where he
was employed by the Downey Unified School District as a mail clerk for
17 years. He retired in 1977 and moved to Wichita, Kan., where he has
lived the past 12 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother
Edwin and twin brothers who died in infancy.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Helen Mack of Des Moines;
two nieces and one nephew; his longtime friend, Leatha Cline of Wichita,
Kan., and her family. Connie Amons and wife Joanne of Wichita, Robert
Cline and wife Shirley of Lakewood, Colo., Jean Green and husband Max of
Prescott, Iowa, and their children and grandchildren.
Services were held at Saint Patrick Catholic Church Monday, Jan.
30, the Rev. John Bertogli officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
Roland-Lindsay Golden Rule Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Jon Green, Jamie Green, Jeffrey Green, Dean
Green, Robert Hinrichs, Paul Gauthier, Francis Mack and Richard Mack.
