Mack
Mrs. Daniel Mack one of the most highly respected women of the
community, past peacefully away at 7 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, after an
illness of four days, following a stroke of apoplexy.
Katherine O'Dea was born near Crauggan, County Clare, Ireland in December 1843.
In 1861 she came to the United States and on Jan. 1, 1866, she was
united in marriage to Daniel Mack.
To this union were born fourteen children. The nine living are J. W. and
Dan of Corning, Iowa; T. F. of Viola; Edward and Joseph C. of Lewistown,
Mont.; William P. of Taylor Ridge; and Michael H. of Preemption; and
James and Miss Elizabeth at home.
All the children were at her bedside thru the closing hours, except
Edward of Montana who was unable to come.
Tho unconscious most of the time she was able to recognize and speak to
all her loved ones.
A most devoted wife, a self sacrificing mother and a kind and loyal
neighbor, she was loved and respected by all.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning at St. Joseph's church and
the remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
Nephews of the deceased -- James, John and Edward Mack of Viola and
Patrick, Thomas and Martin Conway of Preemption -- acted as pallbearers.
Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were Father
Murtaugh of Sheffield, Sister Vincent and Sister Clara and Mr. and Mrs.
George Glanz of Davenport, Mrs. Nora Costello of Vail, Iowa, Mrs. Mary
O'Brien and son Michael of Vte, Iowa, Patrick Culligan of Chicago, Miss
Jose Sexton and Mrs. Thomas Norton of Rock Island, Mrs. Maria Cassidy of
Moline and Miles Kehoe of Milan.
