Pneumonia Claims Life Of Beautiful Girl
Mary Elizabeth Mack, 12-year-old daughter of James I. Mack who
resides near Gilchrist, died of pneumonia at 11:15 o'clock Tuesday
morning at Villa de Chantel, Rock Island where she was attending school.
She was taken ill Sunday and in the afternoon a physician pronounced the
trouble pneumonia of the most malignant form. She soon became delirious.
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Mack and Ed Mack, relatives, were summoned and were
with her to the end. She is survived by her father, a young brother, her
mother having died two years ago.
Mary Elizabeth was a bright, and beautiful girl. On Sunday afternoon she
had written a number of bright, cheery letters to her father and
friends. A peculiar and pathetic coincidence is that her father, James
I. Mack was taken ill with pneumonia at almost the same hour and has
been very low but now is believed to be improving. It has been
impossible however to hold the funeral services because of his serious
illness and the remains of Mary Elizabeth were brought to this city this
morning and placed in the receiving vault at Aledo Cemetery until such a
time as the father may be able to view for the last time the beautiful
features of his only daughter.
Rev. Father T. J. McKinnery of Viola will conduct the funeral services
and celebrate Mass at St. Joseph's Church, Preemption where interment
will be made. The date of the funeral will be announced.
