Mary Ellen Mack
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Ambrose
Catholic church, Milan, for Mrs. Mary Ellen Mack, age 75, whose death
occurred at her home west of Taylor Ridge early Friday morning, March
18. The rosary was recited at the Mack home at 8:30 p. m. Sunday and
brief services were held there at 9:30 a.m. Monday before the church rites.
Pall bearers were Charles Conway, Bert Horan, Ed Brennan, Earl
Boultinghouse, William Kelly and Oscar Grundstrom. Burial was in the
family lot at Calvary cemetery.
Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick McManus, she was born
Mar. 5, 1874, in Preemption where she was educated and grew to
womanhood. She was married Nov. 24, 1898, to William P. Mack who
preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1943.
The couple farmed near Viola for two years before moving to the
farm one and one-half miles west of Taylor Ridge where both were
prominent in the farm and social life of the community until their
deaths. Mrs. Mack was in her usual health last Thursday night when her
only child, Joseph P. D. Mack saw her alive. When he went to her home
about 8:30 a. m. Friday he found his mother had passed away peacefully
during the night. Leslie H. Banning, county coroner, said death was due
to a heart condition and had probably occurred in the early morning hours.
In addition to her she is survived by six grandchildren. She was
a member of St. Patrick's church, Edgington, and belonged to the Altar Society.
