Mrs. Mayme M. Mack
Mrs. Mayme Mack passed away in Rosary Hospital Wednesday evening at five
o'clock December 3, 1952 at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 5 days.
Mary Margaret Gauthier was the first child of Mr. and Mrs. A. B.
Gauthier in Dubuque county, Ia., January 28, 1875. When a mere child she
move with her parents to Taylor county, later to Mercer Center vicinity,
and some years later to Corning, which has been her home through the years.
During her early residence in Corning, she was employed in the drug
store of the late dr. Potter, and many years later in the Rigger Co.
basement department.
She was united in marriage to Dan Mack September 29, 1908 in St.
Patrick's church in Corning. To this union four children were born, twin
sons, Francis and Raymond passing away in infancy, Edwin of Des Moines
and Byron of Corning.
Her husband passed away in January, 1924. She was also preceded in death
by her parents and one brother, the late A.L. Gauthier.
She is survived by her two sons, Edwin and Byron, one sister, Miss Alice
Gauthier of Corning, one brother, Ed Gauthier of Corning, a
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Edwin Mack of Des Moines and three grandchildren,
Richard, Carolyn and Barbara, a large number of relatives and a host of
friends who will miss her love and interest. She was a home-loving
person, but always glad to greet her visitors.
She had been in failing health for some time, and was in the hospital
during the last ten weeks of her life. Death was due to a heart condition.
Funeral services were conducted in St. Patrick's church, where she had
been such a faithful member all her life. The requiem High Mass was sung
by Rev. Fr. M. J. Powers at 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning, Dec. 6.
In her more active years, she participated in all church functions, was
a faithful member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and always ready
to help her neighbors and friends. She was a member of the American
Legion Auxiliary.
Pall bearers were her nephews, Paul, Robert, Philip, Raymond and Gerald
Gauthier, and a great nephew, Raphael Mack.
Interment was in the family plot in Calvary cemetery, beside her husband and sons.
Relatives who attended services from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. E. F.
McEniry and daughter of Creston, and Mrs. Nell Mack of Viola, Ill., and
Mrs. Mike Mack from Rock Island.
