Michael Mack Taken By Death; Rites Saturday
Funeral services for Michael H. Mack, 71, of 1505 37th St., Rock
Island, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wheelan Funeral Home
and at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Rock Island.
Mr. Mack died at his home at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. He had been ill about a year.
He was a former prominent Preemption township farmer and Mercer
County supervisor.
The rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 8:15 p.m. Friday. Burial
will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Preemption. Friends may call at the funeral home.
Mr. Mack was born May 18, 1884, in Preemption Township, a son of
the late Mr. & Mrs. Daniel Mack. He grew up and went to school in
Preemption, and also went to school at St. Ambrose, Davenport.
He married Ethel Wheelan Sept. 28, 1910, in Washington, Iowa. He
farmed in Preemption Township until 1947 when the family moved to Rock Island.
Mr. Mack was at one time a supervisor from Preemption Township and
was prominent in community affairs there. He was a member of Sacred Heart
Catholic Church.
Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Young, Decatur,
Ill.; seven sons, Leo, Francis and James, Reynolds, Daniel and William of
Rock Island, Joseph, Oak Park, and John at home; two brothers, Joseph and
Ed, Lewistown, Mont.; and 19 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, a sister,
two sons, one of whom, Lt. Bernard Mack, was killed while serving with the
Navel Air Corps in World War II.
