Memoir
Mildred Mack
After a brave fight for life since withstanding the ordeal of
five operations within two years, Mrs. John Mack Jr. passed peacefully
away late Friday evening, February 8, 1924, at St. Francis Hospital,
Peoria, Ill. While her death was not unexpected for the past week, it
brought profound sorrow to her many friends.
The best that medical science could provide and the kind and
loving care of those nearest to her, was given at all times. Her true
and noble character was best emphasized during suffering as she never
once complained and was resigned to the end that she knew was near. She
received the sacraments every day at the hospital and bore her trials in
a manner fitly becoming to a good Catholic.
Naturally of the most cheerful disposition, she possessed the
happy faculty of making friends easily. Her illness and death found them
all ready to lend their assistance. That her friends were numerous was
evidenced by the large attendance at her funeral, the beautiful flowers
and large number of bouquets. Kind and cheerful, sincere and altogether
lovable, are weak terms to use in an attempt to describe the many
virtues she possessed.
Mildred Kehoe was born in Milan Ill., on September 2, 1877 and
was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Myles Kehoe. She was married to John M.
Mack, Jr. on February 15, 1899. She is survived by her husband and three
children, Louis, Frank, and Grace, all at home; three brothers W. J.
Kehoe of Niles, Michigan, and James and Michael of Milan; and two
sisters, Mrs. Marion Surplus of Clarkston, Washington and Mrs. J. W.
Mack, of Corning, Iowa, besides numerous nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. James Mack, her
twin and Mrs. Thos. Conway and Emmet Kehoe.
Funeral services were held at St. John's church in Viola with
solemn requiem Mass, with Father C. J. Higgins, her pastor, celebrant.
Interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery in Preemption, where she was
laid gently by three nephews and three cousins, Charles Conway, Frank
Kehoe, Charles Mack, John Brennan, Bert Horan and Edward Brennan.
Out of town people present at the funeral included James and
Michael Kehoe of Milan, W. J. Kehoe and son Frank of Niles, Michigan,
Mrs. J. W. Mack of Corning, Iowa, Misses Mary and Ella Hulan, Mrs. Hugo
Krien and Miss Grace Wheelan of Rock Island, Mrs. Thos. Norton of
Davenport, Mrs. Mary Sackville of East Moline, and many friends and
relatives from Edgington, Preemption, Aledo and Reynolds.
