Thomas Mack Dies At Viola Home Tuesday
Native of Preemption Township Had Lived in Greene Twp. 42 Years
Thomas F. Mack, 75 passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 1944, at 7:20 a.m. in
his home in Viola, following a lingering illness of stomach trouble. His
condition became acute on Friday, and he failed rapidly until the end.
He was born Sept. 24, 1869, in Preemption township, the son of Daniel
and Catherine Mack. He received his grade school education in Preemption
township and his high school education in St. Paul, Minn.
He was married Sept. 30, 1902, at Aledo, to Miss Margaret Ellen Noonan.
To this union were born four children, Sister Mary Janela, Clinton, Ia.; Bert Mack
and Walter Mack, Viola, and Mrs. Edna Wilson, Chicago, all of whom were with
their father at the time of his passing.
Retired Farmer
Mr. Mack was a farmer by profession, until seven years ago when he
retired and moved to Viola, which has been his home since. He has resided in
Greene township for 42 years. During his active years he served this township
as school trustee, and as a director in his home district No. 52. He was a member
of St. John’s Catholic church of Viola.
Surviving besides the widow and children are a sister, Miss Elizabeth Mack,
Rock Island; three brothers, Michael of Reynolds, Edward A. and Joseph C. of Lewistown,
Mont., and seven grandchildren. Four brothers preceded him in death:
John W., Daniel, William P., and James J. Mack.
Services Saturday
The body was removed to the Davis funeral home in Viola, where it
will rest until Friday morning when it will be returned to the home. The
Rosary will be recited at the funeral home Thursday evening, and at the
family home Friday evening.
Final rites will be from St. John’s church on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. John's cemetery north of Viola.
