V. J. Mack, Former City Clerk, Dies
Funeral services were held at St. Patrick Catholic church in
Corning Tuesday morning for V. J. Mack, 67, former Corning city clerk.
Mr. Mack died Saturday evening at Veteran's hospital in Des Moines.
Services were conducted by Rev. Father Jacob Welax. Burial was in
Calvary cemetery. Corning American Legion Ourcq Post 117 assisted in
grave-side services.
Mr. Mack served as city clerk here for over 28 years before his
resignation in September 1958, because of poor health. He had been
living in Creston since that time.
For many years Mr. Mack was cashier at the Corning Municipal
Utilities, having taken that position when the light plant was first put in operation.
He was also a longtime member and officer in the Corning Legion post.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Marguerite McEniry of
Creston, and Mrs. Andrew Adamson, of Santa Barbara, Calif., and two
brothers, Lewis, of Corning, and A. K. (Bud), of Chicago.
Pallbearers were Francis Mack, Robert Mack, Raphael Mack, John
Lenz, William Crandall and Eugene McCann.
