Myrtle M. Mahin dies Saturday
Myrtle M. (Swift) Mahin, 98, of 801 E. Polk Street in
Washington, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1987, at the Washington Care Center.
She had been in failing health for a number of years.
Graveside services were held at 12 noon today at the National
Cemetery in Rock Island, Ill., with the Rev. George Bishop officiating.
Myrtle May (Swift) Mahin was born in Washington on Aug. 5, 1889,
a daughter of James and Etta (Lindsey) Swift. She attended Washington
schools and graduated from the Washington Academy and Browns Business
College in Davenport. She married Russell H. Mahin on Nov. 6, 1923 in
Davenport. He died on Dec. 25, 1964.
Mrs. Mahin has lived in Washington for 3 1/2 years. Prior to
moving to Washington, she spent seven years with her daughter in Villa
Park, Ill. For 57 years she lived in Rock Island where her husband was
an Alterman for 22 years.
She was a member of the South Park Presbyterian Church in Rock
Island and was employed as a stenographer for the Geo. H. Paul Land Co.
in Washington for 10 years in her earlier years. She later was a
stenographer and clerical worker in Davenport for Skelly Oil Company.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty (Mrs. John) Cuthbertson of
Villa Park, Ill.; one granddaughter, Laurel A. Schafer of Villa Park and
one grandson, John James Cuthbertson of Villa Park; two
great-grandchildren, Michelle Shafer and Christopher Cuthbertson, both
of Villa Park.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Lloyd Swift.
