Rites To Be Held Thursday For Mrs. Maynard, 73
Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Maynard, 73, of Matherville
will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 1964, at the Crummy funeral
home in Viola and a 9 a.m. in St. Anthony's church in Matherville with
the Rev. C. M. Meyer officiating. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery at Viola.
Mrs. Maynard died Monday afternoon, March 30, 1964, in St.
Anthony's hospital where she had been a patient the past six days.
Mrs. Maynard, the former Bertha Ann Maurer, was born March 22,
1891, in Gilchrist, a daughter of John and Mary Clarke Maurer. She
attended Gilchrist schools and was married to Henry Maynard March 8,
1912, in Davenport. He died July 15, 1959.
She had lived in the Gilchrist and Matherville communities her
entire life having been in Matherville the past 50 years. She was a
member of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic church and the Altar and Rosary
Society of the church.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Vernon Anderson of Matherville,
Mrs. Irene Sweeney of Monmouth, Mrs. Sidney Snell of Viola, and Mrs.
Ronald Anderson of Goldsboro, N.C.; a stepson, Norman Maynard of
Matherville; six grandchildren; a brother Casper Maurer of Port Byron
and three sisters, Mrs. Harry Moline of Cable, Mrs. Frank Krivas of San
Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Willis Teipel of Wonder Lake, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, a
stepdaughter and a sister.
