Franklin L. McCann
Franklin L. McCann, 67, of Creston died May 22, 2000 at his home.
Services will be 11 a.m. May 25 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church
with the Rev. Leonard Kenkel officiating. Burial will be in Calvary
Cemetery at Creston with military rites by VFW Theodore J. Martens Post
No. 1797. There is open visitation noon to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, 7 p.m.
Christian wake service and the family will receive friends 7 to 8:30
p.m. Wednesday at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New Your Avenue. A memorial
will be established in his name.
Mr. McCann was born Aug 7, 1932, in Creston to Peter L. and
Catherine (Bradley) McCann. He graduated from Creston High School in
1951. On Dec. 26, 1952, he married Judith Allen in Creston, and they
later divorced. On December 28, 1984, he married Barbara Evans in Winterset.
After his discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1956, he worked for Boeing
Aircraft in Renton, Wash., for 10 years. He returned to Creston where he
worked as sales manager for Hills-McCann until 1970. He moved to the
East Coast where he worked on the subway in Washington, D.C. until an
accident in 1977. He returned to the Creston area to farm south of
Creston until health forced him to retire. In 1994 he moved to Creston.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, American Legion, Eagles
Lodge and Elks Lodge and a lifetime member of the VFW, all of Creston.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Evans of Creston, four sons,
Donald (wife Rhonda) McCann and Douglas (wife Sheri) McCann of
Marshalltown, David (wife Sandy) McCann of Olathe, Kan., and Daniel
McCann of Wheaton, Ill.; a daughter, Cathy Hickok of Ames; four
stepchildren, Peggy (husband Rudy) Henstra of Barrie, Canada, Debra Poe
of Dallas, Texas, Derek Evans of Damascus, Md., and Edward Evans
(special friend Lorraine) of Mississauga, Canada; a brother, Robert
(wife Rita) McCann of Tampa, Fla., four sisters, Mary C. McEvoy of Santa
Maria, Calif., LuEllen Huss of Des Moines, Regina (husband Leonard)
Myers of State Center and Jane McCann of Des Moines; eight grandchildren
and six step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John McCann and
