Leonard McCann, Creston
Leonard Paul McCann, 82, of 511 W. Montgomery in Creston died
about 8:45 p.m. Sunday at Greater Community Hospital here. He had cancer
and had been ill about nine months.
His funeral will be 10 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception
Worship Center with his son, the Rev. Arthur McCann, and the Revs. Tim
Fitzgerald, Tom Coenen and Mike Sims officiating. Burial will be in
Creston's Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. McCann was born Dec. 29, 1900, in Afton to James and Mary
(Murphy) McCann. The family moved to Creston in 1907. On Jan. 17, 1925,
he married Margaret Helen McCoy at the Immaculate Conception church.
Mrs. McCann died July 7, 1947.
Mr. McCann was a licensed funeral director for 60 years and
worked as one and as a furniture salesman for Coens for over 60 years.
He had been a member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Assoc., a
board member for Regency Park, and a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic
Parish and its Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include two sons, Edward C. (wife Betty) McCann of
Geneseo, Ill., and the Rev. Arthur L. McCann of Urbandale; two
daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. William P.) Armstrong of Moline and Jane (Mrs.
William C.) Linthieum of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
His parents, nine brothers, four sisters and a granddaughter
preceded him in death.
A parish rosary will be recited at 8.p.m. Tuesday. A wake will start at
7:30 that evening and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will follow the wake.
All of these events will be at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home, which has charge
of arrangements.
A memorial has been established to the Creston Catholic School.
