Died in Montana.
A message was received by relatives here Monday announcing the
death of David Christy McConkay which occurred in Moore, Montana, Monday
morning the 18th of September.
David was a son of Mr. and Mrs. S. W. McConkay, of our city. He
was born in Corning April 26, 1885, and grew to manhood here. The past
year he went to Montana and then was home last summer and while here he
was suffering from an attack of appendicitis and also from a rupture,
for which latter trouble he had an operation performed in Creston, David
returned to Montana a short time after the chautauqua here last month.
Relatives received word that he was expecting an operation last Saturday
for appendicitis and that he was in bad shape hence his father departed
last Saturday evening for Moore. Mr. McConkay did not reach Moore until
Monday evening and David passed away Monday morning. The body will no
doubt be brought to Corning for interment but at this writing no
arrangements have been made for the funeral as word has not been

brothers and three sisters. They are John W. McConkay, of Princeton,
.Ind.; Mrs. Mike Berry, who resides near Corning, and Miss Inez, George,
Samuel and Miss Lura McConkay, at home.

Death of David McCoukay in Montana.
The body of David McConkay was brought here yesterday on No.
6, from Lewiston, Mont., where he died last Monday morning at 9 o'clock.
The funeral will occur tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the family
residence in South Corning and will be conducted by Rev. R. E. Shaw,
pastor of the Methodist church. Interment will be made In Oak Hill
cemetery and the M. W. A. will have charge of the ceremonies at the
grave. The news of his death came as a shock to friends and relatives,
as he had left Corning greatly improved in health five weeks previous.
He was ill nearly all summer at home and had sufficiently recovered as
to be able to return to Montana. He was afflicted with appendicitis and
took a relapse on Friday of last week, He was advised by his physician
at Moore to go immediately to the hospital at Lewiston and have an
operation. When the incision was made the doctors found that the matter
had been delayed to long, and nothing could be done to save his life. He
passed away on Monday several hours before his father reached there.
David Christian McConkay was born April 26, 1885, in Corning and
was the third child of Mr. and Mrs. S. W. C. McConkay. He received his
education in the city schools, attending the high school one year.
Leaving school he was employed in the H. H. Hill grocery store for 4
years and a half. Being then 21 years old he decided to go west and take
a claim, which he did in Fergus county, Montana, near Moore. He was a
very industrious young man and during the time he was proving up on his
claim he worked incessantly in the city. He disposed of his claim and
later purchased other property and always made good and last week he and
a young friend purchased a large ranch. Last November he returned home
on account of a rupture, for which he later had an operation, going back
to Montana in March. The latter part of April his father and sister Miss
Inez, went out and brought him home with them, being then troubled with
appendicitis which caused his death. Besides his parents he leaves 3
brothers and 3 sisters and other relatives. The family have the sympathy
of their friends.

Funeral of David McConkay.
Last week mention was made of the death of David McConkay at
Moore, Montana. His father, S. W. McConkay, who started to Montana on
account of the serious illness of David, but arrived after his death,
brought the body to Corning last Friday on No. 6. David passed away at 9
o'clock Monday morning of last week. He suffered from appendicitis, for
which an operation was advised, but when an incision was made the
doctors found it was too late to do him any good, and his death
resulted, as previously mentioned.
David was born and grew to manhood in Corning. He received his
education in our schools and for some time was employed in H. H. Hill's
grocery before going to Montana. He had a claim near Moore, which he
recently disposed of, and only a short time before his death he and a
friend purchased a ranch in that vicinity. The deceased leaves his
parents, three brothers and three sisters, beside other relatives and
friends to mourn his departure. The funeral services were held at 2
o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home of his parents, in the south part
of town, conducted by Rev. R. E. Shaw, pastor of the M. E. church, and
interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. The M. W. A. order had charge
of the ceremonies at the grave.
