Obituary
Another pioneer of Adams county passed away with the death of
Mrs. Samuel McConkay which occurred Sunday, December 22, 1935. Mrs.
McConkay had lived in the county for sixty years and had been a member
of the Methodist church since 1878. She had been a great sufferer and
had been ill for some time. Funeral services were held from the
Methodist Episcopal church Tuesday afternoon at 2 p. m. and interment
was made in Oak Hill cemetery.
Urbena McConkay was born in Denmark in the year 1860 and came to
America when she was 13 years old. She lived in Maryville, Mo., about
two years then came to Corning and since that time this has been her
home. She was married to Samuel Wesley McConkay, January 1, 1880 and to
this union 7 children were born. Her husband Samuel, a son, David, and
daughter, Mrs. Fred Mills preceded her in death. She is survived by
three sons and two daughters, John W. McConkay, Upland, Calif.; George
and Samuel R.; Mrs. Claude Roth and Mrs. M. E. Barry; five grandchildren
and one great grandchild; also three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Tena
Stander, Mrs. Lena Peterson, Mrs. Mary Rogers, and Walter Larson. She
was a good mother whose interests centered in the home and who also
leaves a host of neighbors and friends who will miss her kindly spirit.
