Funeral Services Wednesday For Mrs. Earl McFarland Sr.
Mrs. Earl McFarland, Sr. of Odebolt passed way on Sunday
evening at 7:15 at Loring Hospital. Funeral services were held on
Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. at the Methodist Church in Odebolt with
the Moeller Funeral Home in charge of the services.
The Rev. C. Dana Boggie of the Methodist Church conducted the
services. Music was furnished by Mrs. Charles Ferguson and Edward
Korneisel with Mrs. T. R. Down as organist. The flower committee was
composed of Mrs. H. G. Keller and Mrs. Albert McDonough.
Ushers were Henry Girardin and William Sykes and casket bearers
were S. R. Bye, P. Dale Gronemeyer, Harry W. Kessler, D. J. Larson,
Richard Ritzman and Ralph Wagner. Burial was in the Odebolt Cemetery.
Mrs. Laura Ellen McFarland, daughter of Narcissa and Robert
Moore, was born on January 3, 1898 at Missouri Valley, Iowa. She lived
with her family in Missouri Valley for ten years before they moved to a
home in iour City, Iowa.
Laura resided in Sioux City where she attended public school
until she was united in marriage to Earl H. McFarland Sr. at Sioux City
on December 23, 1915. The couple settled in a house in Odebolt where Mr.
McFarland worked for his father as a carpenter.
This union was blessed with five children. She was a very devoted
wife and mother. Mr. McFarland passed away on November 10, 1964. Mrs.
McFarland continued to live in their home in Odebolt near her beloved
family and many friends.
She was a member of the Odebolt Methodist Church and was baptized
on April 28, 1916 at the Wesley Methodist Church in Sioux City. She was
also a member of the Odebolt V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Odebolt Womens Relief Corp.
Mrs. McFarland departed this life at the Loring Hospital in Sac
City on Sunday evening December 17, 1967 after suffering a sudden
illness at her home in Odebolt the day before. She had attained the age
of 69 years 11 months and 14 days.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Louise) Rabe
of Lake View, Mrs. Sherman (June) Thorpe of Lake View and Mrs. Al
(Elaine) Gray of Mason City; two sons, Earl of Mason City and Tillman of
Odebolt; two sisters, Mrs. Leonard Dungan of Sioux City and Miss Georgia
Hatcher of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She also leaves other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded
in death by her beloved husband and her parents.
