Daniel R. McGinnis, 41, of Edwardsville, Ill., formerly of
Rock Island, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Ill.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church, Rock Island. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island,
where a Christian wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may
be made to the Edwardsville High School wrestling program or to the
Alleman High School wrestling program, Rock Island.
Daniel was born Jan. 25, 1962, in Rock Island, the son of Richard
M. and E. Jean Verschoore McGinnis. He graduated from Alleman High
School, Rock Island, and from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville.
He worked as an insurance agent for the Shelter Insurance Co., Edwardsville.
Dan loved all sports, especially wrestling. He helped coach
wrestling at Edwardsville High School for 10 years. He had many great
friends and will be missed by all, especially by his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan McGinnis,
Phoenix, Ariz., Lisa and William Berry, Rock Island, Linda and Gary
McShane, Higley, Ariz., Mary and Doug O'Neill, Milan; brothers and a
sister-in-law, Michael McGinnis, Rock Island, and John and Kathleen
McGinnis, Moline; numerous nieces and nephews; and his stepfather,
Thomas Maloney, Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Special thanks to all his adopted family in Edwardsville for
taking such good care of Dan.
