Edith McManus
Edith M. McManus, 88, of Taylor Ridge, died Monday, March 6,
2000, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church,
Andalusia, with the Rev. Richard L. Barclift, pastor, officiating.
Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church, where a Christian wake service will
be conducted at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the
church or to a favorite charity.
Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, is in charge of arrangements.
Edith Hamerlinck was born Feb. 16, 1912, in Buffalo, Iowa, the
daughter of Henry and Minnie Cable Hamerlinck. She married Bernard M.
McManus Feb. 20, 1935, in Milan. He died Sept. 21, 1977. She had farmed
with her late husband for many years in the Taylor Ridge area.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and a former
member of its Altar and Rosary Society. She loved to sew, crochet and quilt.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Kenneth
McGinnis, Milan, Nancy McManus, Rock Island, Teresa and Darrel Bush,
Taylor Ridge; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Mary Ann McManus,
James and Patricia McManus, John and Rosalie McManus, all of Taylor
Ridge; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sisters, Clara Van
Severen, Davenport, Jeannette Carlson, Illinois City; and a brother,
Edward Hamerlinck, Davenport. She was preceded in death by an infant
son, Patrick; three brothers; and four sisters.
