Henrietta 'Pet' McManus
Henrietta M. "Pet" McManus, 95, of Aledo, died Wednesday,
Oct. 18, 2006, at the Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at
St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Matherville, with the Rev. John
Thieryoung officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church or Mercer County

She was born Jan. 11, 1911, in Rock Island, daughter of Henry and
Mary Elizabeth Engels Hancq. She received her education in Rock Island
and graduated from Western Illinois State Teacher's College in Macomb.
She married Lawrence F. "Mickey" McManus Feb. 15, 1936,
in Rock Island. He died Feb. 8, 1996.
Prior to her marriage, she taught at Wapella Community High
School and worked at the Rock Island Arsenal. She and her husband farmed
their entire married life.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Altar and Rosary Society,
Mercer County Homemakers Extension, Mercer County Historical Society and
had been a 4-H leader.
She enjoyed reading, quilting and doing needle crafts. She was a
devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and
great-great-grandmother. They have many fond memories of her patience,
her fabulous dinners and the games she played with them.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Lou and
Donald Young, Viola, Mary Anita and Steven Zwicker, Bradford, Ill.; 10
grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Francis; a
brother, August; and sisters, Isabella (Leroy) McManus and Clara (Henry) Thomas.
