Obituary

  In St. Anthony's Catholic church at Mathersville funeral services for John McManus, age nearly 79, were held Tuesday morning. Burial ws made at St. Joseph's cemetery, Preemption.
  Pallbearers were Charles Conway, George Gauley, M. H. Mack, Dale Lucas, John Kelleher and Martin Horan.
  Following a a long period of declining health, Mr. McManus died at St. Anthony' hospital in Rock Island on July 31.
  Surviving relatives include a son, Charles J.; a sister, Mrs. Ellen Mack of Taylor Ridge; and five grandchildren. His wife, his son Leo and two brothers had preceded him in death.
  Born in Preemption town on August 22, 1869, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick McManus. On Feb. 2, 1904, he was married to Miss Mary Conway in Preemption.
  He lived his entire life in that town where he as a prominent and successful farmer and cattle raiser.
