P. L. McManus, Taylor Ridge Farmer Dies
Well Known Stock Raiser, Farmer Dies At Home On Saturday
P. L. McManus, 75, prominent stock raiser, and farmer in
Mercer and Rock Island counties, was found dead in his bed on his farm
home west of Taylor Ridge early Saturday morning, June 16, 1945. He had
been in poor health for several years, and death was due to a heart attack.
Funeral services were conducted at 9:30 Tuesday morning at the
late residence, and at 10 o'clock at St. Ambrose Catholic church in
Milan by Rev. Daniel F. Monahaghan. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery, Preemption.
Preemption Native
Mr. McManus was born March 16, 1870 on the old McManus homestead
near Preemption, a son of the late Michael and Ellen Lucas McManus. He
was reared and educated in Preemption and was married Jan. 20, 1897, in
Preemption to Miss Ellen Ayers.
A life resident of Taylor Ridge vicinity, he was a member of St.
Patrick's Catholic church, Edgington, and Holy Name society. He had
lived on the same farm for the past 47 years, and was well known as a
stock feeder and cattle raiser.
He leaves his wife; four daughters, Sister Mary Eleanor of Mercy
hospital, Davenport; Mrs. Marguerite Monaghan of Harvey, Ill.; Mrs.
Loretta Verschoore of Taylor Ridge and Mrs. Josephine Verschoore of
Reynolds; two sons, Joseph and Bernard, both of near Taylor Ridge, and
17 grandchildren.
