Miss Anna Meehan, of Manilla, Sister of Ex-Sheriff Thos. Meehan, Dies
Very Suddenly Friday Heart Trouble The Cause
Funeral Held Sunday and Was Largely Attended, Many From Distance Being Present
Manilla, July 27 - Special. The death of Miss Anna Meehan, of
this city, on Friday of last week came as a great shock to the many
friends of the family in Manilla and the surrounding towns where
relatives and friends of the deceased reside. No warning had been given
of the sudden passing away and she had been ill but a few hours when the
end came, as the result of heart trouble.
Anna Elizabeth Meehan was born at Milan, Rock Island county, Ill.,
Sept. 3, 1867, and came with her parents to Iowa in March of the year
1881, where they resided until two years ago, when they moved into the
town of Manilla and have since made their home with her brother.
She leaves to mourn her loss her mother, three sisters and two
brothers, namely; Mrs. Hannah Meehan, Mrs. P. J. Hanrahan, both of
Manilla; Mrs. P. J. Lally, of Manning; Mrs. C. C. Houlihan, of Denison;
J. J. Meehan, of Manilla; Thos. R. Meehan, of Redfield, S. D. One sister,
Mrs. E. A. Hickey, passed away five years ago.
Miss Meehan was loved by a large number of warm friends by whom
her death will be felt as a keen loss, and her motto is said to have
been "All friends and no enemies." She devoted her time to the
care of her mother and did all in her power to make the lives of those
around her happy and contented.
The funeral was held on Sunday morning at the Sacred Heart
Catholic church and the remains laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery at
this place.
