Alice Miller
Alice B. Miller, 99, of rural Matherville, died Thursday,
April 22, 2010, at home.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m.Tuesday, April 27, at St. Anthony Catholic
Church, Matherville. Burial is at St. John Cemetery, Viola. Visitation
is 4-8 p.m. Monday, with a rosary to follow at St. Anthony Catholic
Church, Matherville. Dennison Funeral Home, Viola, is handling
arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
A daughter of Thomas and Mary Dooley David, Alice Bernice David
was born on Oct. 30, 1910.She was born, raised and lived her entire life
on the family farm in rural Matherville. She married Mike Miller Oct. 1,
1929, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, rural Matherville. He died Dec. 27, 1991.
She was a homemaker in every sense of the word.She had many jobs
that she carried out around the family farm.Her home was always open to
everyone.Raising the many kids that came by the house is what she said
kept her young.
Her many interests included horses, dancing, playing piano and
oil painting.She even went and taught art at Matherville Grade School.
Alice was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church,
Matherville.Over the years, she had been a member of the Auxiliary
Rosary Society, Altar Society and taught Catechism.Also active in the
community, she was a member of Matherville Eagles Auxiliary, Farm
Bureau, Rural Farmers Wives and Home Extension.
Survivors include her daughter, Pam Miller, rural Matherville;
two sons, Tom (Sis) Miller, Matherville, and Michael (Deb) Miller,
Davenport; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 18
great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Bob
Miller; daughter, Carol Steagall; infant daughter, Rose; brother,
Benjamin David; sister, Ella Redpath; half-brother, Phillip Crummy; and
half-sister, Rosie Crummy.
