Herman Charles Moeller was born in Hanover, Germany in 1877, the son of Frederick and Dorothea Moeller. Three sisters and one brother have preceeded him in death. He and his family moved from Germany to the United States when Herman was five years old, and settled in Indiana where Herman attended school there and later in Chicago. He came to Nebraska in 1903 where he engaged in farming, which was his lifetime occupation.
In 1905, he and Alice A. Parker of Decatur were married at Tekamah. They observed their 60th anniversary last March 8. To this union were born four sons and one daughter: Theodore who resides with his parents; Eldon, now living in Los Angeles; Ronald of Walthill; Eula Hamilton, of Sioux Falls, and Robert who served in the Army Air Force during World War II and was killed in action in 1943.
The family lived west of Decatur until 1941. After moving to Walthill, his church membership was transferred to the Methodist Church here.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 88 of Decatur of 49 years standing. Masonic services were held at his graveside. He served with the Triple A from 1934 to 1941 and later with the Thurston County Draft Board until 1959. He retired from farming in 1955 and moved into Walthill that year. He was an active and respected member in community affairs for many years at Decatur and at Walthill.
Survivors include the widow, three sons: Ronald and Theodore both of Walthill, and Eldon of Los Angeles, Calif., a daughter, Mrs. Eula Hamilton of Sioux Falls, So. Dakota; nine grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
