Marguerite Monaghan
Marguerite Monaghan, 91, formerly of Rock Island, Joliet and
Harvey, IL, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 1991, at St. Anthony's Continuing
Care Center, Rock Island.
Services were at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius X Catholic Church,
Rock Island, where she was a member. Burial was in St. Joseph's
Cemetery, Preemption.
Visitation was at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a
rosary was recited.
The former Marguerite McManus was born, May 8, 1900 in Taylor Ridge, the
daughter of Patrick L. and Ellen Ayers. She married Edward J. Monaghan
Oct. 7, 1936, in Milan. He died May 27, 1963.
Mrs. Monaghan was a graduate of the former Villa da Chantal, Rock
Island, and attended the former Illinois State Teachers College, Normal,
now Illinois State University. She also attended the University of
Illinois, Champaign.
She taught primary grades for a total of 36 years in rural Rock
Island County, Harvey, and her last two years at the former St. Pius X
Grade School, Rock Island. She retired in 1970.
She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society at the church
and Hauberg Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Dolan, Mokena, IL; a son, Edward
Monaghan, Lancaster, PA; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; and
sisters, Loretta Verschoore, Taylor Ridge and Josephine Verschoore, Moline.
