John Linus Moore
John Linus Moore, son of Daniel W. and Mary Quinn Moore, was
born in Washington township, Adams County, Iowa, Jan. 2. 1896 and passed
away at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa, March 2, 1976, after being
a patient there for six days.
He was married at Corning, May 29, 1923 to Teresa Keefe.
Mr. Moore was a native of Adams county and a retired farmer.
After retiring from farming he worked as a carpenter and served as Adams
county deputy sheriff for eight years. He received his early education
in Adams County and attended the Corning high school. He served with
Company "B", 313th Ammunition Train in World War 1. Linus was
a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W, and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa; four daughters, Sister
Rosemary Moore at St. Teresa Catholic school at Des Moines, Sister
Benita Moore at Marycrest College at Davenport, Rita Stanton and her
husband Richard and Jane Moore of Denver, Colo.; and two grandchildren,
David and Elizabeth Stanton of Denver, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bertha
Moore and Inez Moore and by one brother, Louis Moore.
A Rosary service was held at the Larkin Roland Funeral Home
Wednesday night at 8 o'clock. Funeral mass was held at St. Patrick's
Catholic Church in Corning, March 4, at 10:30 a.m. with Msgr. John
Kovacs officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Corning, where
military graveside rites were conducted by Oureq Post 117, American Legion.
Music was provided by Mrs. William Kelly, organist, and the St.
Patrick's choir. Pallbearers were John Moore, Eugene Mullin, John Jones,
Oscar Lynam, Joe Jones and Dean Leonard.
A memorial has been established for the Cancer Society.
Those coming from a distance to attend the funeral service were
Mrs. Moore's sister, Mrs. J.J. Greenwood and her daughter-in-law, Mrs.
Dwight Greenwood of Monticello, and her son, Frank Greenwood of
Cherokee; Roger Moore and family of Kent; Helen, Bernard and Marjorie
Moore of Des Moines, and Mrs. Joan Crandall and daughter Sue and Chas.
Cummings of Afton; Mr. and Mrs. Noel Waters of Atlantic. Mrs. Louis
Moore and Sister Carolyn Moore and Mr. and Mrs. John Moore, all of
Creston, attended the Rosary on Wednesday night.
