Maxine Newswander
Funeral services for Maxine Newswander, 80, of Aledo, will be 11 a.m.
Friday at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery.
Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials
may be made to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church, Aledo.
Maxine died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Maxine Mae was born July 26, 1925, in Mercer County, to Lee and
Mergie Mae Spence Smith. She married Joseph L. Newswander Sept. 12,
1942, in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death Jan. 21, 1989.
Maxine was a devoted homemaker, but also did upholstery from her
home in partnership with her sister-in-law, Jean Young. She was a
die-hard Chicago Cubs and Fighting Illini fan. She also enjoyed
crocheting, baking and many crafts. Her pride and joy were her
grandchildren and she enjoyed attending their school activities.
Maxine is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Pat
Newswander, Aledo; a sister and brother-in-law, Emma Lee and Edwin
Relander Jr.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one
great-great-granddaughter; and two sons-in-law, George Unsworth, Aledo,
and Ron Darwin, Big Island. She was preceded in death by her husband;
two daughters, Evelyn Unsworth and Sandra Darwin; and a granddaughter,
Debra Ann Klossing.
