The sad news of the death of Byron Northup on
Friday, Apr. 10 was received. Funeral services were held in the Catholic
church in Corning at ten o'clock on Monday morning.

Byron G. Northup
Byron Gilbert Northup, the son of Roy and Cecelia White
Northup, was born in Nodaway, Iowa, April 15, 1915 and passed away at
the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, April 10, 1981, at the age of 65
years, 11 months and 25 days.
He was united in marriage with Anita Long May 11, 1935 at
Maryville, Missouri. This marriage was blessed with the birth of six children.
He started farming near Villisca, then move to a farm southwest
of Lenox in the spring of 1940. They made their home here until ill
health forced his retirement and their move into Corning in the fall of 1980.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Capt. Edwin
Northup on June 20, 1972; four brothers, Francis, Matthew, Leo and
Lawrence; his sister, Sister Gervass; and a granddaughter Roseanna Lynn Sandstrom.
Survivors include his wife Anita of Corning, a son John of Lenox,
four daughters, Linda Pershin and husband Mike of Creston, Celia Curry
of Mitchellville, Louise Sandstrom and husband Albert of Dallas Center
and Lisa Northup of the home; five grandchildren, Valerie, Loren and
Michele Sandstrom, Pamela Pershin and David Curry, a sister, Mary Good
of Lincoln, Neb.; his daughter-in-law, Teresa Northup of Laurel,
Maryland; four brothers, Don of Denver, Colo., Harry of Lincoln, Neb.,
Vincent of Iowa City and Joe of Nodaway; other relatives and many friends.
Byron had served as president of the Taylor Co. Farm Bureau, the
Republican party, township trustee and on the Lenox School board.
Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in
Corning April 13 at 10:00 a.m., with Msgr. John F. Kovacs officiating.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Corning.
Casket bearers were Larry Northup, Tim Northup, Martin Moore, Ron
Travis, Donald Tribolet and Eugene Mullin. Honorary bearers were Kenny,
Mike and Wayne Northup. Altar servers were Alan Kordick and Mrs. Louise
Eleanor Kelly was organist.
