Obituary

  Mrs. Mary McManus O'Brien died at the home of her sister, Mrs. John Mack, Monday, February 3, at nine o'clock a.m. While Mrs. O'Brien has been in failing health for the past year, she was confined to her bed but three weeks prior to her death. The funeral services were held in the Pre-emption Catholic church, Wednesday, February 5th, Father McHenry of Keithsburg officiating. Mary McManus was born in Moughan county, Ireland, Feb. 2, 1849, coming to this country when quite young. She was married in 1879 to Patrick O'Brien at Pre-emption. To this union were born seven children, but two of whom survive. In 1884, she, together with her husband removed to Stewart, Iowa, where she resided until about a year ago. Besides the two children and sister, already mentioned, she leaves a large number of relatives and friends here and at Pre-emption to mourn her loss. The interment was in the Pre-emption cemetery.

  Mrs. Mary O'Brien of Stewart, Iowa, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. John Mack, at Gilchrist switch, on Monday and burial was in Pre-emption township.

Note: Patrick O'Brien died in Stuart, Adair County, Iowa in 1920 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery there.
