Mamie O'Brien Dies At Mercy Hospital
Requiem High Mass Was Sung by Rev. G. J. Walker Assisted by St.
Patrick's Choir
Friends of Miss Mamie O'Brien were grieved to learn of her
death which occurred on Thursday morning, January the twentieth at the
Mercy Hospital, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Miss O'Brien was born on October
12, 1877 at Rock Island, Illinois. Her early years were spent at Rock
Island and Reynolds, Illinois. While a young child she moved with her
parents to Dow City and later to Ute, Iowa. The last five years she
lived with her sister Miss Kate O'Brien in Dunlop.
She leaves to mourn her loss two sisters: Mrs. Madge Norman and
Miss Kate O'Brien; three brothers: Joseph, Edwin and Michael; six
nephews, five nieces and a host of friends. Three brothers preceded her in death.
Miss Mamie O'Brien despite years of suffering, gladdened many
hearts in life and saddened many of them in death. Her friends were
always edified at her noble, patient, and unselfish attitude towards her lot.
It is a consolation to know that she has been called from a life
of empty and transitory pleasures to an abode of permanent peace and happiness.
The funeral was held from the home to St. Patrick's Church on
Saturday morning at nine o'clock. A Requiem High Mass was sung by the
Reverend G. J. Walker, assisted by St. Patrick's choir. Father Kane of
Ute was present in the sanctuary, while Daniel O'Brien, Billy Feser,
Delaine Buter, and Billy Talcott served Father Walker.
A beautiful and fitting sermon was delivered by Father Walker.
Pall Bearers were: Harry Saggau of Denison, Vincent, Edwin and
Francis Norman; Gerald and Joseph Jr O'Brien, all nephews of the deceased.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: P. J. Colligan and
Mrs. Berger from Moline, Ill.; Mrs. T. Barnes and son, Louis of Reynolds,
Ill.; Mike Mack of Reynolds, Ill., Tom Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. A. Griffin
of Taylor Ridge, Ill.; Mrs. George Hausch and son, Ambrose of Milan, Ill.
Those of Ute were: Mr. and Mrs. John Hartigan, Mr. and Mrs. Tim
Shannahan, Miss Theresa and Marie Shannahan, Joe Seibert, Miss Hannah
Heffernan, Maurice Heffernan, Tom Clinton, Miss Margaret Clinton, Dan
Hartigan, Mrs. Tinem, Mrs. Olsen, and Miss Edna Gregerson. Those from
Dow City were: Mr. and Mrs. Adam Sharp and Mrs. Mark Riley.
J. H. Cronin of Council Bluffs; Michael Kiniry and G. Costello of
Vail; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Buckley and Miss Katherine Buckley of Panama;
Mrs. Peter Lally and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Lally of Manilla;
