Mr. O'Leary
John Henry "Hank" O'Leary, 83, died at 3 p.m.,
Monday, April 25, 1977, at Moline Lutheran Hospital following a brief
illness. Mr. O'Leary had operated a drug store in Reynolds for 56 years,
but had been a resident of St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center in Rock
Island for the past two years.
Funeral services for Mr. O'Leary will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday
morning at the Crummy Funeral Home in Reynolds and at 10:30 a.m. at Mary
Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Orion. Rev. C.J. Hollerich,
pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Western Cemetery, Orion.
Friends may call at Crummy's from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening,
Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post No. 1166.
He was born in Orion on Nov. 2, 1893, the son of Cornelius and
Elizabeth Brown O'Leary and attended the Orion schools. He graduated
from the Northwestern School of Pharmacy in Chicago and served as a
pharmacist in Aledo and Detroit, Mich., before moving to the Reynolds community.
At his suggestion the Community Post 1166, American Legion was
established in Reynolds. The post held its organization meeting in his
drug store with 13 veterans attending. He was a charter member.
He served in World War I with the 45th Infantry, 9th division, in
intelligence work and was discharged in 1919.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Mayme Thompson of Orion and Miss
Matilda O'Leary of Moline and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
