Peter Olbertz Dead
Thursday the remains of Peter Olbertz of this city were laid
to rest in the family lot in SS. Peter and Pauls' cemetery. The funeral
services were held at the church of which he has been a devout and
faithful member all his life.
Born in Germany 77 years ago he came to this country in 1867 when
a young man and located at Twin Groves, III. where he was united in
marriage to Miss Mary Fushaller in 1870 and after a short residence
there they moved to Boone and in 1873 they located in Sheridan township
of this county and five years later moved to Kniest township where they
made their home until four years ago when they moved to this city.
The deceased was one of Carroll county's best citizens. He was
sober and industrious and by his efforts succeeded in acquiring a
competency for himself and family. Those who have had the pleasure of
Mr. Olbertz acquaintance remember him with kindness and feel that in his
death the community has parted with a good citizen who loved his home
and acted on the square with all he had business relations. He was a
kind generous soul and leaves as inheritance a name unsullied for his family.
For some time he had not been enjoying good health and gradually
failed to the end. His death was due largely to infirmities incident to
advancing years. He had lived out his allotted time and won for himself
the respect and love of his family and friends. The wife who is now in
her 73rd year is strong and hearty and has fair prospects of being
spared for many years to her family.
There were eight children born to them, six of whom are living
and are: Sister M. Julie, Mrs. W. B. Schmitz, Mrs. Geo. A. Hoffmann,
Peter, Mrs. Jos. Reinhart and Sister M. Eustella.
The good old mother and family have the sympathy of many friends
in this sad hour of their affliction.
