Daniel "Dick" Olin
Daniel Richard "Dick" Olin, 74, of Alexis, died
Monday, March 29, 2004, at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St.
Theresa Catholic Church, Alexis, where he was a member. Burial will be
in St. Mary's Cemetery, Alexis.
Friends may call today after 3 p.m. at Hoover-Hall Memorial
Chapel, Alexis, where his family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. A
rosary service will be held at 5:45 p.m. today. Memorials may be given
to St. Theresa Catholic Church, Alexis.
He was born Aug. 23, 1929, in Burgess, Ill., son of Clinton and
Edna Titterington Olin. He was reared and educated in Alexis. He
graduated from St. Bede Academy in LaSalle-Peru, Ill., and attended St.
Ambrose College, Davenport. Dick married Barbara VanFleet at St. Theresa
Catholic Church, Alexis, on Dec. 20, 1951.
Dick farmed his entire life in the Alexis area. He served for
eight years on the Alexis Board of Education. Dick served as a line
officer with the 7th Infantry in the United States Army during the
Korean War, where he received the Purple Heart.
Survivors (and spouses) are his wife, Barbara Olin, Alexis; sons,
Bill (Kris) Olin, Andover, and Mark (Trinette) Olin, Alexis; daughters,
Kathy (Mike) Flanigan, Bloomington, Ill., Mary Margaret (Reid) Abrams,
LaJolla, Calif., Mary Ann (John) Hunt, Bartlett, Tenn., and Janie (Rich)
Sullivan, Davenport; 17 grandchildren; a brother, Jim (Nancy) Olin,
Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; sisters, Ann (Ed) Verbeke, Olympia Fields,
Ill., and Mary (George) Gillen, Monmouth; and several nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John
Oline and Ed Olin.
