Frank "Chick" Olson
Frank "Chick" Olson, 78, of Keithsburg, died Sunday,
March 26, 2006, at his home.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St.
Mary's Catholic Church, Keithsburg, with the Rev. John Thieryoung
officiating. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, Keithsburg, where
military services will be conducted by Mercer County VFW Post 1571.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Keithsburg

He was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Bald Bluff, Henderson County, Ill.,
a son of Ed and Elizabeth Haney Olson. He attended Henderson County
schools. He married LaVonne Smith Feb. 21, 1969, in Oquawka.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.
Chick farmed all his life and owned the Bald Bluff Historical
Spot, opening his farm and bluff area to the general public. He assisted
with the Henderson County Heritage Trail Bald Bluff climb for 20 years.
He maintained the bluff and his cabin after retirement, making daily
trips to the area. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling and visiting.
Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, LaVonne; stepsons,
Dennis Smith and fiancee, Diane Oberhardt, Moline, Gerald (Cindy) Smith,
Bowling Green, Ky.; three grandchildren, Paul (Alisha) Smith, Belle
Plaine, Iowa, Annalise Smith, Moline, Melissa McGhee, Florida; three
great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Pratt, Burlington, Iowa, Edith
Diehl, Monmouth, Mary Steele, Monmouth; sister-in-law, Lelia Olson,
Monmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
