Claude A. (Pat) Paul
Claude A. (Pat) Paul, son of George H. Paul and Jeanette Page,
was born in Lenox, Iowa on April 5, 1897, and departed this life at his
home on February 23, 1963.
On January 12, 1916 he was united in marriage to Rachael M.
Sutton in Corning, Iowa. To this union three children were born: first,
twins, Claude H. and Grace W.; and later a son, Cleland.
The early part of his life was spent in Taylor county, Iowa and
in Boone, Nebraska, but the greater part of his life was spent in Corning.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachael; his parents; a
sister, Mrs. Grace Swain.
He was united with the Corning Methodist church during his early married life.
He is survived by his three children; one son-in-law, Harold
Nevius; two daughters-in-law, Cleda and Gloria Paul, one sister, Mrs.
Carl Pedersen of Casper, Wyoming; one brother, William of Helena,
Montana; five granddaughters; five grandsons; one great granddaughter.
Forth-seven years of his life was spent in the feed and coal
business in Corning.
Pat was a very hard worker, always doing more than his share. He
was kindhearted and a great lover of children. Many a child received a
nickel when he came in the store, and each grandchild received 21 silver
dollars on his twenty-first birthday. Pat liked to fish, tend to the
cattle and work among the flowers. He was always neat and clean, good to
his family and a friend of everyone.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 27, at 2 p.m. from
the Methodist church in Corning with Rev. Brown Garlock officiating.
Music was by Mrs. Joe Cook, Mrs. Doyle Tranbarger and Mrs. Bert Peckham.
Pallbearers were Clarence Bender, Homer Richards, Bryan Holbrook,
Clifford Gill, Frederick Drake and Edward Wheatley. Flowerbearers were
Mrs. Homer Richards and Mrs. Clarence Bender. Interment was in the
Prairie Rose cemetery.
