Claude Herman Paul

  Claude Herman Paul, 75, son of Claude Albert and Rachel Minerva (Sutton) Paul was born Nov. 9, 1916, at Corning and died Oct. 10, 1992, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home here.
  Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 13, from the United Methodist Church in Coming, the Rev. Richard Layman officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
  Mr. Paul attended grade school and high school at Corning, graduating in 1935. He worked in grocery stores in Coming, working for John Nevius, United Food Markets, Supply Store and Biggar's Grocery.
  On Oct. 1, 1939, he married Cleda Pearl Bissell at her family home in Corning. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1989, and their 53rd earlier this month.
  Mr. Paul entered the Navy July 19, 1944, and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operation until his discharge Jan. 27, 1946. Returning to Corning, he went into business with his dad and brother as owners and operators of Paul's Feed and Supply. He was a member of the Methodist Church for many years, a member and past president (1955) of the Chamber of Commerce, served a term on the Corning School Board, was an active volunteer fireman in Corning from 1935-1947, and a member of Ourcq Post No. 117, Coming American Legion, for 49 years.
  He enjoyed sports and was a loyal Corning High School booster. Hobbles included fishing, hunting and horseback riding. After his retirement, he and his wife spent their winters in Florida as health permitted.
  Mr. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Deborah Irene in 1952; a brother, Cleland; and a brother-in-law Harold Nevius.
  Survivors include his wife of Coming; his children Lanny of Emmetsburg, Steven (Sheryl) of Waukon, Patrick (Jean) of Bellevue, Neb., Ronda (Mark) Logli of Stockport; a twin sister, Grace Nevius of Corning; a sister-in-law, Gloria Paul of Corning; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
  Honorary casket bearers were Dick Loonan, Paul Gauthier, Otto Sundstrom, Raymond Richie, Ronald Campbell.
Casket bearers were Edward Fife, Arnold Betts, Randy Perrin, Dallas Hannah, Cory Straight, and Dallas Hickman.
