Jacob Paul

  Jacob Paul, one of the old soldiers and citizens of the city, passed away suddenly Tuesday morning at 4 o'clock at his home in southeast Corning. He had been about as usual Monday, working in the garden, assisted with the weekly wash and had made a trip to town, retiring at the usual time seemingly in his usual health. An hour before he passed away he awoke and conversed with his wife and dropped off to sleep, passing away at 4 o'clock. The funeral was held yesterday, (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock at his late residence and was conducted by Rev. Dessie Cupp-Cook, pastor of the Christian church. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery in south Corning. Deceased was born in Henry county, Iowa, May 17, 1846 and was aged 74 years, 10 months and 12 days. He grew to manhood in the vicinity of his birth and was among those to serve his country from his county, joining Co. K, 7th Ia. He was married to Miss Ellen Downing in May, 1871, and to them the following children were born and survive their parents: G. H. Paul of Corning; Mrs. Annie Duncan of Lenox; C. A. Paul of Eads, Colo.; W. H. Paul of Corning. He removed to Corning in 1883, and was later married to Mrs. Rachel Elson; one son was born to them, J. J. Paul, who died December 21, 1914, the wife and mother dying the following January, 1915. Mr. Paul was married to Mrs. Sarah Evelyn Roach January 9, 1916, who survives him with his four children, thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren, also, one brother George Paul of Brighton, Ia., all of whom attended the funeral.

Wedding

  The wedding of Jacob Paul and Mrs. Sarah Roach of this city took place on Sunday evening at 7 o'clock at the home of the bride. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Hugh C. Guy, pastor of the Christian church in the presence of a few friends and relatives. Both have for many years been residents of this city, where they expect to reside.
