Mrs. C. A. (Pat) Paul
Rachael M. Sutton, youngest daughter of Joseph and Minerva Sutton,
was born November 15, 1893 near Brooks, Iowa and departed this life at
Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa, on July 2, 1962.
On January 12, 1916 she was united in marriage to Claude A.
"Pat" Paul at the Christian church parsonage in Corning, Iowa.
To this union three children were born, first twins, Claude, and Grace
and later another son, Cleland.
She spent her entire life in Adams county, Iowa her schoolhood days
being spent in and near Brooks. At an early age she was united with the
Christian church of Brooks, and after marriage transferred her
membership to the First Methodist church of Corning.
She was a willing worker in all organizations to which she belonged.
Among these were the Womens Society Christian Service of the Methodist
church, The Rebecca Lodge of which she was the Past Noble Grand, Past
County President of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the
Rose Anns Hospital Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Also a
granddaughter, Deborah Irene Paul, daughter of Claude and Cleda Paul.
Survivors are: her loving husband Pat; two sisters, Mrs. Dora Riegel of
Red Oak and Mrs. Flora Wheatley of Corning; a daughter, Grace Nevius,
two sons, Claude and Cleland; two daughters-in-law, Cleda and Gloria
Paul; a son-in-law, Harold Nevius; five granddaughters, Sandra, Mary
Lee, Susan, Pamela and Ronda; five grandsons, Lanny, Steven, Patrick,
Donald, Michael and Carl Johnson, husband of Sandra; a great
granddaughter, Deborah Lee.
Grandma Rae was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was
a devoted friend of all those who knew her. The greatest interests in
her life were her family and her many flowers.
Funeral services were held Thurs., July 5 at 10:30 a. m. from the
Methodist church in Corning, Iowa with Rev. Brown Garlock officiating.
Music was by Mrs. Doyle Tranbarger, Mrs. Bert Peckham and Mrs. Joe Cook.
Pallbearers were John Nevius, John Moore, Byron Ogburn, Paul Gauthier,
Charles Wheatley and Paul Pennington. Flowerbearers were Mrs. Clarence
Bender and Mrs. Homer Richards. Interment was in Prairie Rose cemetery.
