Vince Penza
1922-1999

Vincent DePaul "Vince" Penza, 76, of Jacksonville, died Friday afternoon, Aug. 20, 1999, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
  He was born Oct. 31, 1922, in New York City, the son of Ralph and Beatrice Risoli Penza. He married Mary Lou Clark on June 17, 1947, in Virginia, and she survives.
  He is also survived by one son, Mark (wife, Carol) of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; four daughters, Terese of Vernon Hills, Mary Lou of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Elizabeth (husband, James) Monk of Ponchatoula, La., and Kathryn (husband, Mark) Thompson of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; one sister, Marie (husband, Henry) Muchtin of Tequesta, Fla.; nine nieces; and nine nephews.
  Mr. Penza enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and served in the European Theatre until 1945. He received the Bronze Star for his efforts. He attended ASTP and graduated from Illinois College in 24 months. He was a member of the Gamma Nu Literary Society at Illinois College. He was a partner in Penza and Pieper Construction Company before founding Vince Penza Realtor. As a developer, Mr. Penza developed Forest Hill, Forest Park, Deerpath Estates and numerous other housing developments in and around the Jacksonville Area. He also made significant contributions to the development of Morton Avenue.
  Mr. Penza was a member of the Church of Our Saviour and was the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in the early 1950's. He served as Chairman of the Mayoral Advisory Committee for Mayor Byron Holkenbrink.
  He was elected Director of the National Association of Realtors from 1970-1985, President of the Illinois Association of Realtors in 1972, Dean Emeritus of the Illinois Realtor's Institute, Realtor of the Year for Illinois in 1976 and National Association of Realtors, Regional Vice President of Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. He was a member of the Omega Tau Rho Real Estate Fraternity. He was the third person in Illinois to earn the designation of GRI (Graduate, Realtors Institute) and the third person in the country to earn the CRB (Certified Residential Broker). He taught Real Estate at the Realtors Institute of Illinois and at Lewis and Clark Junior College at Godfrey. He hosted real estate seminars in Rome, Italy.
  A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Monday at the Williamson Funeral Home with the family meeting friends following a 5:45 p.m. prayer service, until 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Real Estate Education Foundation in Springfield.

  Services: Mass, 10 a.m. Tuesday, Church of Our Saviour. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Jacksonville.
