Hildegarde Peterson
Hildegarde M. Peterson, 103, of Rock Island, died Thursday, June 10,
2004, at her daughter's home in rural Reynolds.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic
Church, Matherville. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.
Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock
Island, where a rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Memorials may be made
to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island, St. Anthony Catholic Church,
Matherville, or Mercer County Home Health Care.
Hildegarde was born Jan. 9, 1901, in Rock Island, a daughter of
Andrew and Mary Weh Steinle. She married John Andrew Peterson Dec. 5,
1920, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on July 14, 1970.
Hildegarde worked for a time at the Rock Island Textile Company
and later at McCabes Department Store. She then worked for Boetje Foods
in Rock Island and Milan for 10 years. For many years, she also owned
and operated a greeting card sales company in Rock Island.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island, and
the Altar Society of the church. In 1999, she was honored as the oldest
living member of St. Joseph Church. Her primary interests were her
faith, family and friends.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine M. and
Thomas P. Conway Sr., Reynolds; grandchildren, Thomas P. Conway Jr.,
Reynolds, Margaret Ann Conway, East Hanover, N.J., Joseph J. Conway, Ann
Arbor, Mich., William E. Conway, and his wife Pamela, Bettendorf, Daniel
B. Conway, Reynolds, and Kathleen M. Conway, Lake Forest, Calif.;
great-grandchildren, Clare Conway, Meredith DeTore, Megan DeTore, Andy
DeTore, Kaitlin Conway, Kelly Conway, Joseph Patrick ``J.P.'' Conway,
Wm. Michael Conway, Brian Conway, Matthew Conway, David Conway, Erin
Conway, Rory Conway, and Molly Conway; and a great-great-granddaughter,
Mackenzie DeTore.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers and
sisters, Mathias Steinle, Mary LaFrenz, William Steinle, and Frances
Mungerson; grandchild, Eugene Michael Conway; and granddaughter-in-law,
Patricia Conway.
