Edith Phillips
Edith Alice Lane, daughter of Ada Oleson Lane and Leonard Lane
was born March 24, 1915, near Prescott, Iowa, and departed this life
Oct. 28, 1986, at Mercy Hospital in Corning, at the age of 71 years, 7
months and 4 days.
She graduated in 1932 from Prescott High School.
On May 15, 1940, she was united in marriage with George Phillips
of Corning. Three children, Connie, Marvin and Joyce were born to his union.
She taught in the Adams County schools for a number of years. She
and George spent their early years farming near Prescott and Corning.
They moved to Corning in 1960 where she spent 20 years working at the
National Farmers Organization in Corning. She was a member of the
Christian Church.
Her chief role in life was that of wife, mother, grandmother and
homemaker. Her gentleness will long be remembered by her children and
grandchildren and the many lives she touched.
Besides her husband, George, she is survived by a son, Marvin
Phillips and wife JoAnn; daughters, Connie Agnew and husband Harold and
Joyce Graf and husband Fred; grandchildren, Kevin, Alan and Kerri Agnew,
Brittina and Adonica Phillips, Joshua and Sarah Graf; and
step-grandchildren, Dawn, Daniella and John Andrews. She is also
survived by three sisters, Mrs. Dale (Ida) Wilmeth, Mrs. Johan (Lela)
Riley of Creston and Mrs. Caroll (Dorothy) Robinon of Corning.
Preceding her in death were her parents and three infant sisters.
Funeral services were held at the Goodwin-Lindsay Funeral Home in
Corning Oct. 31 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jack Cutbirth officiating.
Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Corning.
Music was furnished by Jean Nevius, organist, and Carolyn Engel,
soloist. Casket bearers were Kenneth Robison, Robert Wilmeth, Larry
Wilmeth, David Wilmeth, Gary Riley and Ronnie Riley.
