Emma Young Phillips
Emma Young, daughter of William A. and Martha Griffith Young,
was born March 3, 1886, in Adams County, Iowa and passed away at the
Rosary hospital in Corning, Ia., March 14, 1956, at the age of 70 years,
and 11 days. Mrs. Phillips' death followed an illness of several months.
She was united in marriage to Fred Phillips in Corning, April 6,
1904, and to this union three children were born: Gladys Sayer, Colorado
Springs, Colo.; Arlo Phillips, Portland, Ore.; and Glen Phillips ,
Bentonville, Ark.
Mr. and Mrs. Phillips celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1954.
Besides her devoted husband and children, she is also survived by
two daughters-in-law, and one son-in-law, five grandsons, one
great-grandson; three brothers, Warren Young of Tingley, Walter and Ray
Young, both of Prescott; also nine nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Phillips lived all her life in Adams county and the last 36
years were spent in Corning.
She joined the Methodist church as a child and was devoted to
church all through life.
Mrs. Phillips was a devoted wife and mother and her greatest
interest was in her home. She was a lover of nature and beauty, a good
neighbor and a friend to all who knew her.
Services were held Friday, March 16, at 2:30 p. m. from the
Methodist church in Corning, with the Rev. Frank Jacobs in charge.
Interment was at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Music for the services was furnished by Mrs. Esther Roland and
John Riegel. Mrs. Kathleen Cook was Pianist.
Pall Bearers were Ralph Cooper, Homer Richards, John Cummings, Lloyd
Jones, Harry Caven and Kenneth Darnah.
