Olive Maude Phillips

The many friends of the family were saddened last Thursday morning, when the death of Maude Phillips occurred. She had been ill for some time - in fact, had been ailing for several months - but died of typhoid fever, aged 17 years and 25 days. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Phillips and was conducted by Rev. Jay Kirkendall. Interment was made at Walnut Grove cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by friends and schoolmates. The members of the double quartette that rendered the music were Edgar Cupp, Roy Gill, Albert Gauthier, Hugh Eldridge, Blanche Bullock, Beulah Champ, Jessie Archer and Blanche McClelland. The pallbearers were John McElroy, Hayden Hutchison, Will Cochran, Albert Gauthier and John Frederick. All of these young people were, or had been members of Miss Maude's class, and had she lived she would have graduated in the class of '07 of the Corning high school. Besides her sorrowing parents, she leaves one brother, Earl, and two sisters, Miss Gladys and Miss Birdie. Olive Maude Phillips was born in Wyoming, Illinois, July 12, 1891, where she remained for three years, then removing with her parents to Wymore, Nebraska. The family remained there for three years, coming to Corning in 1897, where they have since lived. Miss Maude was an exceptionally bright and loveable girl and counted her friends by the score, always having a kind word and a happy smile for all. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. William Steer, of Braddyville, a sister of Mr. Phillips; also Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Rogers, Wyoming, Illinois. The lady is a sister of Mrs. Phillips.
