Emery Pitman
Emery J. Pitman, 84, of Sherrard, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at
Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church,
Matherville, where he was a member. Burial is in Farlow Grove Cemetery, Matherville.
Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time Monday at the church. Memorials
may be made to the church or the American Cancer Society. Family Funeral
Services, Aledo, handled arrangements.
Emery was born Oct. 19, 1917, in Preemption Township, son of Jesse
and Kathryn Logan Pitman. He married Verlee Thompson March 14, 1939, in Davenport.
He farmed on the family-owned Centennial Farm. He and his brothers
raised purebred Angus cattle.
Emery was a former 4-H leader in the Sherrard area and a former
member of the Mercer County Fair board.
Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Verlee; daughter, Mary
(Dick) Docherty, Sherrard; sons, Thomas (Janene) Pitman and Rex (Terri)
Pitman, both of Sherrard, Don (Juli) Pitman, Matherville, and Dennis
(Cathie) Pitman, Aledo; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and
brother, Deane Pitman, Sherrard. He was preceded in death by his
parents, three sisters and two brothers.
