Verlee Pitman
Verlee M. Pitman, 82, of rural Sherrard, died Wednesday, Oct. 9,
2002, at home.
Services are 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church,
Matherville, with the Rev. John Thieryoung officiating. Burial is in
Farlow Grove Cemetery, Matherville. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at
Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo, where a rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.
Memorials may be left to the American Cancer Society.
She was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Jackson Township, Van Buren
County, Iowa, daughter of Guy and Nora Yerkey Thompson. She attended the
Viola schools. She married Emery Pitman March 14, 1939, in Davenport. He
died March 8, 2002.
Verlee was a homemaker and a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic
Church, Matherville, and its Altar Society. She enjoyed gardening and flowers.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Richard
Docherty, rural Sherrard; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Janene
Pitman and Rex and Terri Pitman, all of rural Sherrard, Donald and Juli
Pitman, Matherville, and Dennis and Cathie Pitman, Aledo; 14
grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine
and Don Hutchins, San Manuel, Ariz.; and brother-in-law, Dean Pitman,
Sherrard. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters
and three brothers.
